Helpful books, podcasts, and ideas to support your child’s emotional wellbeing

As parents and carers, you are the most important people in your child’s life. Sometimes it can be hard to know how best to support them—especially when they’re struggling. Below are some trusted books and podcasts I often recommend to families. They’re full of practical ideas, reassurance, and inspiration.

Books

  • How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk – Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish

  • How are you feeling today?  – Molly Potter
A child-friendly guide to feelings, perfect for reading together.

For parenting through challenges

  • The Explosive Child – Dr Ross W. Greene
Helpful for understanding and supporting children with intense emotions and behaviours.

  • Parenting a Child Who Has Experienced Trauma – Dan Hughes & Kim Golding
    A compassionate, attachment-focused guide.

Podcasts

  • Unruffled with Janet Lansbury – Gentle guidance based on respectful parenting principles.

Every family is different. You don’t need to read every book or listen to every episode—choose what speaks to you and leave the rest. Sometimes the smallest change can make the biggest difference.
