Play Therapy
Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps children express their thoughts and feelings through play - their natural language. Have you ever had a time when you were upset or worried and you talked to a trusted friend who listened and you began to feel better?
Just as adults talk to process their emotions, children play to make sense of their world, their relationships, and their experiences. Through play, children are able to communicate at their own level and pace, using toys and creative media to express what they cannot yet put into words. In sessions, we use toys, art, storytelling, movement, and other creative tools to help children explore what’s going on inside, all in a safe, child-friendly environment.
A strong, trusting relationship between the child and therapist is central. I provide a warm, consistent presence that helps the child feel accepted and understood — just as they are.I work in a non-directive way, which allows the child to lead the sessions. They choose what to play with and how. This approach respects their pace and empowers them to explore safely and freely. Play therapy provides a safe space for children to explore difficult feelings like fear, anger, sadness, or confusion — without judgment or pressure.Through symbolic play, children begin to process their experiences, find new perspectives, and build resilience. Over time, this can lead to improved behaviour, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing.Play Therapy can help children facing:
